New communications and information technologies have created a global revolution in communications, access to information, and media delivery. There are a lot of positive aspects to the global revolution, but there are also some very negative ones. This report describes the most negative ones--how communications and information technologies are used to facilitate the trafficking of women and children for sexual exploitation. This report is not about legal definitions. In fact, many of the women and children's experiences fall into gray areas, rather to conform to precise definitions. Also, much of the research on sexual exploitation and the Internet deals with images, and the people in the images are not available to be interviewed and asked questions to clarify their experiences, their consent or coercion, their freedom or slavery. |
