Description:
 This paper examines the ways in which sex work has become a solution to the employment needs of the urban poor. The authors argue that sex work is a constituent part of an overall low-wage economy. Individual decisions to participate in sex work are framed in relation to other economic opportunities--including legal and off-the-books work. The data for the study is based on in-depth interviews and participant observation of Chicago's sex work economy over a year-long period.
