 Combining transaction-level data on street prostitutes with ethnographic observation and official police force data, this rapport focuses on the economics of prostitution in Chicago.Prostitution, because it is a market, is much more geographically concentrated than other criminal activity. Prostitution activities are organized very differently across neighbourhoods. The analysis also sheds light on issues of organizational form, and is informative about the interaction between law enforcement and prostitutes. In stark contrast to illicit drugs, the criminal justice system has a relatively minor impact on prostitution activities.
