 The Coalition against Trafficking in Women, a non-governmental organization working toward the elimination of sexual exploitation of women and girls and the realization of gender equality, affirms the need to examine the priority theme of women's empowerment and its link to sustainable development. It is fitting that the review theme of the sixtieth session of the Commission on the Status of Women is the elimination and prevention of violence against women and girls as it is necessary to examine global policies purported to empower women that actually have the consequence of promoting violence against women and girls.
