The Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement has a humanitarian obligation to wo rk against the abhorrent and increasingly worrying phenomenon of human trafficking ; and the following statements constitute the foundation on which the proposed action RC against human trafficking is based. Human trafficking is a multifaceted and complex problem with broad implications for stability, democratisation, rule of law as well as the public health situation of the countries of origin, transit and destination. It has a range of root causes. Since the RC entry point is vulnerability, the activities should not be focused on law enforcement or border control. Accordingly, the RC focal issues are prevention, assistance, re- integration and advocacy. |
