 The purpose of this manual is to enhance protections available to victims of Gender Based
Violence (GBV) by building the capacity and expertise of social workers who mediate to
prevent violence against women. Iraq is in a period of transition politically, socially and
culturally. This manual is geared specifically towards social workers who are
primarily engaged in mediation efforts in northern Iraq although other individuals who
mediate will find it useful as well.
