Description:

Following the adoption of several national strategies to combat trafficking in human beings since 2001 (the last one covering the period 2006-2010), the Romanian authorities have delayed the finalisation of a new national strategy. In the area of prevention, substantial efforts have been made by the Romanian authorities and non-governmental and intergovernmental organisations active in the field of combating trafficking in human beings. As regards assistance and protection of victims of trafficking, despite the existence of legal provisions, in practice there are problems as regards victims' access to health care and suitable accommodation. GRETA welcomes the efforts of the Romanian authorities in the area of investigation and prosecution of trafficking cases, and encourages them to prioritise the identification of gaps in the investigation procedure and the presentation of cases in court with a view to ensuring that THB-related offences are investigated and prosecuted effectively. |
