Save the Children Denmark (SCD) is being involved in combating the worst forms of child labor, in collaboration with other concerned organizations working in Ethiopia. The research, conducted in 4 'kebeles' of Addis Ababa (urban dwellers associations), reveals the major labor activities (shoe shining, selling, assisting taxi drivers, and prostitution). The causes include poverty, death of one or both parents, the need to become economically independent and violence within the home environment. To prevent and reduce child prostitution, the recommandations to address child labour problems need to be combined with a comprehensive set of approaches that will be based on 3 main elements : capacity development, service delivery, advocacy and networking. |
