Description:
 The Dominican Republic expressed its commitment to fighting for women’s rights in 1982 when it ratified the Convention. This fifth report covers the period from 1998 to 2001 and consists of three chapters. The first chapter gives a broad overview of the country’s socio-economic situation and describes poverty levels and Government action to combat them. The second chapter describes the status of gender mainstreaming in the public sector, in particular within the State Secretariat for Women (SEM). The third chapter outlines the situation of the country with regard to the articles of the Convention and highlights the progress made during the reporting period.
