Description:
Child sex tourism and trafficking in children for sexual purposes are inextricably linked. Some African countries are considered emerging child sex tourism destinations; however, it is difficult to obtain statistics or actual figures on the scale of such violations due to the lack of studies or research being conducted in tourist destinations in Africa. According to ECPAT International's African network members, the following countries are most affected by child sex tourism: Benin, Cameroon, Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, The Gambia and Tanzania (Zanzibar). Of these, Kenya, South Africa, The Gambia, Morocco and Ghana are considered the more popular CST destinations. Nigeria was identified more as a source of child sex tourists in other African countries rather than a destination for CST.
